All About Retinol

La Suite Retinol Serum

What it is:

Retinol (Vitamin A) is the #1 ingredient you need for beautiful, healthy skin.

What it does:

  • Visibly reduces the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles
  • Helps support healthy collagen
  • Visibly brightens the skin's complexion
  • Helps support cell turnover
  • Helps normalize the skin, including regulating oil production

Who should use it:

All skin types, including acne-prone, sensitive and those with rosacea

The important thing is to build up to daily tolerance and stay consistent. If you add only one “treatment” product to your routine, add Retinol.

When to use it:

PM - Use after cleansing and toning and before a hydrating moisturizer.
Since Vitamin A is such a powerful ingredient, we like to keep the rest of the PM routine simple. Your AM routine must include a physical SPF of at least 30.

FIRST TIME USERS:

Week 1: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Week 2: Every other night
Week 3: Every night

If sensitivity occurs at any point, go back to M, W, F until well tolerated and gradually increase frequency to every night. Beautiful skin is a marathon, not a sprint.

EXPERIENCED USERS:

Week 1: Every other night
Week 2: Every night

If sensitivity occurs, go back to every other night until well tolerated and gradually increase frequency to every night.

How to apply it:

FIRST TIME USERS:

Dispense 3-4 drops and gently massage into skin with your fingertips, starting on the forehead, moving down the sides, then working towards the center of your face. Follow with your hydrating PM moisturizer.

AVOID the eye and neck area. Wash your hands before applying eye and neck creams.

EXPERIENCED USERS:

Dispense half a dropper and gently massage into skin with your fingertips, starting on the forehead, moving down the sides, then working towards the center of your face. Follow with your hydrating PM moisturizer.

Once well tolerated, we like to add 2-3 drops to neck and décolleté creams.

Pro Tip: Once you have finished 1-2 bottles of Retinol Serum 2.5 and do not experience irritation or redness, it’s probably time to progress to Retinol Serum 5.0.

What to expect:

First time users may experience mild redness and sensitivity, especially around the naso-labial folds. If sensitivity occurs, go back to using M, W, F until well tolerated and gradually increase frequency to every night.
