Best Tips for Transitioning Your Skincare Routine for Fall

It’s delightful to be away all summer. But it’s also divine to return to your very own bathroom, full of gleaming, full-size beauty products! Months of trial-size vials in your cosmetic bag and squeezing out the very last drop of serum—not to mention that late-night drugstore run for a quick fix—often results in tired-looking skin.

It might have escaped you in that hotel or friend’s beach house—but your bathroom mirror sees all. Your post-summer skin is staring back at you with signs of discoloration; congestion; dehydration…and what to do about that uneven texture?

WHY DOES MY SKIN SEEM SO DULL?

If you think your skin looks dull, uneven and hyper-pigmented right now, you’re probably right. It’s the result of dead cell buildup after a summer short on proper exfoliation and hydration. And as fall, well, falls, less humidity in the air outside, coupled with heating inside, can further dehydrate post-summer skin.

“Now is the perfect time to prep your skin for maximum hydration in the coming fall and winter months,” says La Suite founder Rhea Souhleris Grous. “When skin is hydrated, products penetrate the skin better, and work more effectively.”

YOU’RE INVITED!

Is your fall calendar beginning to fill up with social events after the lazy days of summer? Want to look your best?

Fall is the time of year when girls (and guys) start primping for the big Homecoming weekend. Well, you are cordially invited to La Suite’s Fall Homecoming. Whether in the clinic or with at-home solutions, let’s get your skin ready for a season you won’t forget!

FALL-SPECIALIZED TREATMENTS AT LA SUITE

In the fall, Rhea recommends Microdermabrasion to physically exfoliate those dead, dull skin cells. This rejuvenating, painless service encourages new, healthy cell growth—and then we back it up with tons of moisture. Enjoy Microdermabrasion on its own or customize your next facial to include it. THE TRANSITION-TO-FALL TWO-STEP: EXFOLIATE AND HYDRATE

“The change of seasons is nature’s way of reminding us to change up our skin regimen as well,” says Rhea. “Each of La Suite’s treatments includes customized advice on transitioning to the perfect products for fall.”

Whether you’re able to visit one of our La Suite clinics in Greenwich or New York, or prepping your night-to-remember skin at home, the daily routine is the same: Exfoliate, then hydrate. It’s that simple—if you have the right products.

First, EXFOLIATE. “Exfoliation helps get rid of dead skin cell build-up, so we can activate that beautiful, plumped-up, youthful-looking skin underneath,” says Rhea. Exfoliating two to three times a week will prep your skin for proper hydration. (Not your first rodeo? You can up it to every day.)

Rhea loves Daily Radiance Toner Pads: these little magic pots fly off the La Suite shelves! Who wouldn’t want instantly glowing skin with just one swipe? These daily pads are perfect for any skin type. La Suite’s proprietary blend of mandelic acid and niacinamide refines and brightens post-summer skin.

Next, HYDRATE. Want to maximize your moisture? It’s not that different from how you layer your fall clothing. La Suite’s rule of thumb is to apply thinner, minimally occlusive formulas like toners or serums that contain smaller molecules first. (Light sweater.) Apply heavier formulas like oils and more occlusive moisturizers (turtlenecks or fleeces) in order of product thickness; ie, that puffy coat of a cream comes last.

For at-home hydration, Rhea recommends starting with the water-like toner Forlle’d P-effect Refining Lotion. It uses nano-technology to help hydrating hyaluronic acid penetrate deep into the most parched of skins.

WHATEVER THE SEASON, LA SUITE RECOMMENDS:

As always, follow with La Suite’s non-negotiables, the foundation of a super-effective skincare routine.

Here’s the AM plan:

  1.  Begin with a few drops of Vitamin C Serum, which brightens and provides antioxidant protection against free radicals. Sensitive types should try this one.
  2. After a hydrating toner and Vitamin C Serum, apply moisturizer to protect the skin barrier, your best defense to keep hydration in and irritants out. This fall, try La Suite’s Niacinamide Hydrating Cream. We love how it hydrates without weighing skin down.
  3. Rain or shine, follow with your favorite SPF

PM: Keep it simple. After double cleansing, reapply a hydrating toner. Follow with Retinol Serum and a night-time moisturizer to protect the skin barrier; we can’t get enough of our Squalane Nourishing Cream.
